What is InStyler?
InStyler is a company that brings hairstyling tools for you and is known for its original InStyler rotating iron.

How is it different from any other brand?
Because the company claims that unlike many other hair styling tools, you are more likely to get the desired result when you use InStyler hair styling tools.
Why did I consider InStyler?
I have wavy hair and due to the humid weather, it looks frizzy all the time. Due to exposure to pollution, it has become limp and has lost shine as well.
Now, I have a lot of hair styling tools, which I am happy with! Yet, I was looking for something, other than a blow-dryer, which can give me a polished look and add volume to my hair. So, I thought of giving InStyler a try.
Even though there are many tools from InStyler, I wanted to try out the one that is raved about the most – InStyler rotating iron.
What does it do?
According to the company, the rotating iron is designed in a way that it can rotate both ways. The use of kinetic energy and both ways rotation make it a multipurpose tool. You can blow dry your hair, straighten it, make it wavy and even create classic curls.
Points to keep in mind before buying InStyler rotating iron –
Reading the features and specifications may seem enough to make a purchase decision, isn’t it?
Sorry to pop your bubble, but that is not the ideal way to decide whether to purchase the product or not. First thing that you must remember is the price of the product, i.e., is it on the expensive side? This InStyler rotating iron definitely is! Do you really want to splurge on something like that? Analyze your way through it.
Do you already have other tools that can replace the InStyler brush? Are you a beginner who is looking for a hair styling tool to start with? Or are you looking for a salon-like finish from your styling product/s?
Features and Benefits of the InStyler Rotating Iron
As per the claims of the company, InStyler rotating iron rotates more than 150 times every minute. To make sure that your hair is not tangled during the process, the round iron comes with an ionic and natural boar bristles brush. The bristle pod can be removed as well.
You can choose the tool depending on the different size of the revolving barrel.
The tourmaline ceramic heated plate makes your hair shiny and keeps frizz at bay. The product also comes with four different heat settings for an ease of control on the amount of heat that you’re using on your hair.
How to use the Instyler Rotating Iron
There are different ways of using the rotating iron by InStyler. You can create four types of hair styles with it.
To give yourself a normal blow dry with voluminous hair, towel dry your hair first. Next, detangle your hair using a wide toothed comb and section the hair in small parts.
Take each of the small sections one by one and spread those over the barrel. Once you bring the barrel and the brush to a close, the barrel will start rotating now. Hold the position for a couple of seconds and then slide the iron down. If you want to flip your hair inwards or outwards at the end, move your wrist accordingly and hold the position for a couple of seconds again.
To straighten your hair, make sure that you do not hold the barrel in one place for long. Rather, slide the iron slowly a couple of times through every section.
To create waves in your hair, you have to create sections as before. Instead of gliding the iron through the strands, you have to wrap each of the sections around the barrel. Now close it and let it rotate for 3-5 seconds before gliding down the iron. As you do with any curling iron, you have to hold the rotating iron in a vertical position to make sure that the curls look good.
You may take a look at different videos to understand how to use the tool to create soft curls.
The Advantages of using InStyler Rotating Iron
Company claims say that the InStyler rotating iron removes frizz from your hair. I have had a mixed result though. When I used the tool for blow-drying my hair, it actually made my hair frizz-free. To remind you, I used the tool on my towel dried hair.
Here are a few advantages that I have noticed:
- Makes your hair shiny
- Removes frizz when used on towel dried hair
- The rotating iron uses kinetic energy to style hair with least amount of heat. Your hair thanks you for using much less heat
- Long lasting soft curls and blow dry look
- Voluminous hair
- Do you want to straighten coarse hair? It may work wonder on you if you can dedicate enough time
- You can choose from different barrel sizes
The Disadvantages of using InStyler Rotating Iron
There are not many disadvantages of the InStyler rotating iron.
However, while using the iron, I have faced some glitches. They are:
- I found the product to be a bit expensive for what it does
- I personally did not like the iron as a straightener
- If you have dry hair, you should use heat protectant serum before using the tool to avoid frizzy and brittle hair
- If you haven’t detangled, the bristles of the brush can get stuck and break the hair shaft
- It may take longer to show result on thick coarse hair
Are there any alternatives to Instyler Rotating Iron
Truly speaking there is no one single product that can replace the InStyler rotating iron!
However, if you have straightener, you may pass on the rotating iron. You may also avoid purchasing the rotating iron if you have a blow dryer. So, to be specific, you need a straightener and a blow dryer to replace the rotating iron from InStyler.
What does my experience say?
As I have mentioned before, my hair is naturally limp and thin. When I used this product, there were a few things that I noticed. The first thing that I noticed is that it took me quite some time to get used to the tool. The barrel starts to rotate once it touches the ionic brush. And you can change the direction of the rotation by tapping the barrel twice to the brush. Now, as amazing as it sounds, it may cause problems if and when you are new in using it.
I have had a love-hate relationship with the rotating iron by InStyler. The experience is not something that you expect from the company that claims to produce the best hair styling tools. I will break my experience in the following parts –
- Blow dry
Firstly, I used the tool on my towel dried hair. And it worked marvelously. When I blow dry my hair, I always have to keep a brush handy so that I can avoid tangles. But because the rotating iron comes with its own brush, blow drying becomes much easier.

Besides, the rotating barrel gives my hair the volume that it normally lacks. The blow dried look is something that I’m really happy about. The volume also lasts even in the humid weather.
The claim of InStyler is that the rotating iron gives a better result in comparison to hair straighteners. Well, that claim did not come true for me. When I tried using the InStyler rotating iron on my dry hair, it just made it look normal.

Yes, the continuous rotation does make my hair look shiny, but no matter how many times I’ve tried, it has never made my hair look pin straight. Rather, it has made the ends frizzy and brittle.
- Wavy look
Even though I have naturally wavy hair, the waves do not look voluminous and lively. So, I tried using the rotating iron to give my wavy hair some life. Boy, oh boy, do I love it or not?

The rotating iron made the best soft curls that lasted long too. I followed the method mentioned on the website of Instyler and wrapped my hair around the barrel. Creating soft curls have never been this easy. My hair does not become hot at all and yet there are perfect soft curls.
- Curly hair
As I got the bigger barrel, the tight curls that I got from this is not something that I was looking for. But I can’t really complain because InStyler has a dedicated smaller barrel for tighter and more defined curls. However, the curls that I created using the 11/4 barrel ended up being loose curls. So, I am not sure whether the tool will be able to recreate tight curls that curling iron creates.
What is the verdict?
If you don’t have many tools, the rotating iron can be your go-to hairstyling tool. It is an ideal tool for people who are new into hairstyling. For me, the tool has not added any value. I have a blow-dryer, hair straightener and curler (basically, everything that you need).
Although the tool made blow drying easy, I am habituated in using blow dryer and getting the desired result from that. Besides, the iron has not been able to give me pin straight hair that I look for when straightening hair at home.
On the contrary, I achieved voluminous soft curls using the InStyler rotating iron and I am in love with the curls.
However, the question is, will I recommend buying the InStyler rotating iron? As I have mentioned before, if you are starting with hair styling, the rotating iron is one such tool that can help you to achieve a variety of looks. And hence, I would recommend it to beginners. The tool can give you voluminous hair when used as a blow dryer. And you can also get the perfect beach wave with the help of this product.
