What would you give to get glowing skin that is baby soft to touch? We know how difficult it can be to get the airbrushed skin that looks healthy. Every time you’re about to attend a party, you may see a pimple cropping up. You may need to look for full coverage concealers to conceal those nasty dark circles.
Trust us, we all have been there. However, some simple changes can have a huge impact on your skin. Apart from the regular cleansing toning and moisturizing routine, you need to show some extra love and care to your skin to get your skin glowing.
So, without wasting any more time, let’s check out what you can do make sure that your skin looks and feels fresh and radiant.
Cleansing is necessary:
Many a time we feel so lethargic that we don’t even give the effort to clean our face properly. We may use a squirt of face wash to give our face a quick wash and retire for the day. But, let me tell you that cleansing is extremely necessary for your skin.
Even though it’s not applicable to facial skin only, you must take extra care of your facial skin as it is generally more sensitive than the rest of your body.
Cleansing is not only supposed to take out the dirt on the surface of the face but it is also supposed to suck out the grimes and debris that have gone into your skin. So, you better cleanse properly. Choose the face wash depending on your skin type. Also, follow the right way of applying cleanser and washing it off.
So, if you have oily skin, we recommend using Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Gel Cleanser. The facial cleanser removes makeup along with impurities. Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser is ideal for people with normal to oily skin.
If you’re struggling with dry skin, use a moisturizing face wash like Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser. Dry and sensitive skin beauties can use Aveeno Ultra-Calming Hydrating Gel Facial Cleanser that clears your skin without stripping off the natural oils.
Cleansing without face wash:
Are you cringing with the idea of washing your face without a face wash? Well, don’t be alarmed. There’s a well-known technique that is known as oil cleansing. You have to massage your face using a light oil to pull out the oil and muck from your face. Still not sure? Let us explain how it works.
As you know already, our skin has micro-holes that are known as pores. The sebum underneath your skin comes out through these pores. Dirt and makeup blocks your pores and traps the sebum inside. When you use a light oil to clean your skin, it detaches the grease and makeup from your skin. The sebum that is trapped underneath the skin also gets pulled out.
All you have to do is massage your face properly with a light oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oil or olive oil or sweet almond oil. Next step is to steam your face with a warm face towel. The steam helps open the pores so that it becomes easy for you to extract every bit of grime and makeup from your skin.
Steam your face a couple of times and move on to the next step which is cleaning your face. Use the warm wet towel to slowly remove the oil from your face. Use small circular motion to make sure that you clean your face effectively. Besides, the circular motion helps to get rid of the dead skin cells.
If you follow the oil cleansing method correctly, you will see that your skin is glowing from within. Our personal experience says that it has never been easier to remove makeup without making the facial skin too tight.
This method is especially good for you if you have sensitive skin. Oil cleansing doesn’t strip off the natural oil nor does it have chemicals that can irritate your skin. Even oily skin beauties can use oil cleansing without worrying about acne.
However, it is important that you choose the oil depending on your skin type. While olive oil or jojoba oil can be used for the cleansing method, you can also choose Palmers Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Cleansing Oil that is designed to remove every bit of impurities from your skin.
Exfoliate like you mean it:
Have you ever bitten the crusty skin on your lips? Why does the crusty skin appear on your lips? Because our skin cells die every day. To be specific, we lose around 50 million (!) skin cells each day. Now, it is obvious that the dead skin cells won’t have any glow.
If you notice that your skin looks drier than usual, that is probably because of the dead skin cells that are accumulated on your fresh skin. So, what can you do? You can exfoliate. Exfoliate like you mean it. Don’t limit exfoliation to your face only but scrub your whole body to reveal healthy, beautiful and glowing skin.
Let’s start with your face. There are a couple of techniques that you can follow. Let’s talk about the first technique first. We suggest you use a mild scrub for your face so that it doesn’t harm the sensitive skin. Cetaphil Extra Gentle Daily Scrub is good for people with sensitive skin. The scrub is extremely gentle on your skin, so it can be used every day. You can also use The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Exfoliating Face Scrub that is infused with the goodness of tea tree.
Don’t forget to scrub away the dead skin cells from your lips and from your neck as well. Use a lip scrub to get rid of the flaky skin as gently as possible. Velour Lip Scrub by Jeffree Star lip scrub is made out of all edible ingredients such as finely granulated sugar, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil and fruits such as blueberry, raspberry, etc.
There’s another method of exfoliation that you can try out. Use a warm washcloth to buff away the dry skin cells on your skin. Remember how you are supposed to clean your face for oil cleansing? Follow the similar circular movement to wash away the flaky skin.
If you have active acne on your skin, using exfoliators might feel abrasive. However, a warm washcloth is much smoother on your skin. The same washcloth can be used to exfoliate your lips as well.
For your body, you can invest in a good quality body scrub. While a brown sugar scrub such as Brooklyn Botany Brown Sugar Body Scrub exfoliates your skin ever so mildly, an organic coffee scrub reduces the appearance of wrinkles, cellulites and stretch marks.
If you have oily skin, you can scrub twice or thrice a week. Dry skin beauties should exfoliate once or twice a week. Avoid over-exfoliation as that may lead to skin issues such as redness, bumps and sensitive skin.
Toning for more toned skin:
We all have been guilty of skipping toner at least once in our life. Especially, as teenagers, applying toner seems to be an additional step that many of us think is not necessary. If you’re someone who is still missing on toner, it is high time that you change your skin care routine.
Now, you may ask why you need to use toner. If you’re using a facial cleanser, no matter how delicate it is, it disrupts your normal pH balance. The protective acidic layer on your skin gets disturbed. Toner, as the name suggests tones and helps restore the previous acidic state of your skin.
Even if you’re not using a facial cleanser and opting for oil cleansing, toning will help soothe your skin and make it radiant. Toner also helps close your pores that open up during the cleaning process.
That was a lot of information!
However, now that you know why to use toner, let’s see which toners are good for your skin. Whether you have oily or dry or even sensitive skin, avoid using alcohol based toner by all means. Alcohol makes your skin dry and flaky.
TruSkin Daily Super Toner is ideal for sensitive skin beauties. If you’re fighting against acne and oil production, the toner will nourish your skin and make it look fresh visibly. It has Amino Acids, Glycolic Acid, Witch Hazel, Vitamin C, MSM, Aloe Vera and extract of other plants.
Neutrogena Oil and Alcohol-Free Facial Toner is yet another toner that is amazing for any skin type. It is hypoallergenic, which makes it ideal even for ladies who have sensitive skin.
If you’re not sure about using a toner, you can also use plain simple rose water. Try to invest in 100% pure rose water that is made from organic rose petals. TruSkin Rose Water Facial Toner Spray is a rose water spray that we really like. Rose Water Facial Toner by Leven Rose is yet another pure rose water spray that many women feel satisfied to use.
You can also create your own toner by mixing one part of Apple Cider Vinegar with two parts of water. Keep the concoction in a spray bottle and use it twice a day after cleansing your face. The natural astringent properties of ACV will keep your pores clean and hence, will help in skin brightening.
Moisturizers are your best friend:
Be it oily skin or dry skin or sensitive skin or combination skin; do not, we repeat, DO NOT skip moisturizer. Moisturizing your face is as important as cleansing your face. Whatever method you use to clean your face, you pull out the natural oil from your skin. If you don’t apply moisturizer after cleansing and toning, your face will either become too oily or too dry. Moisturizer seeps into your skin and makes it look plump.
Neutrogena Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Moisturizer Gel-Cream is designed to provide hydration that is needed for extremely dry skin. Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Anti-Aging Face Moisturizer helps rejuvenate your skin when you sleep.
Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Facial Moisturizer is not only light weight but it also has salicylic acid that is ideal to keep your oily skin fresh for longer. If you have sensitive skin, you can rest assured that La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer, Oil-Free Face Cream is the gentlest cream for your skin.
It’s best to apply moisturizer after toning your skin. Your skin should be damp when you apply the moisturizer so that your skin absorbs it better. Applying moisturizer ensures that your skin remains hydrated. There’s more to hydration and we will come back to that later.
Facial serums are not over the top:
Many of you may think when you are following a CTM routine religiously, your skin should look and stay healthy. However, sometimes you will see that your skin looks dull, patchy and dry even after cleansing, toning and moisturizing. You may also notice that the spots on your skin don’t want to fade easily.
The reason for your skin behaving in this particular way is that it isn’t getting enough hydration. Or maybe your skin needs more powerful ingredients that will penetrate deeper into your skin and make it radiant. And here comes skin serum. If you think that skin serums are over the top products and you don’t need them, you are wrong.
Skin serums have high concentration of ingredients. But since the serum has a light consistency, it is absorbed fast and easily by your skin. There are different types of serums that you can try depending on the skin problem that you want to treat. If you’re using a serum, use it after toning and before moisturizing. Let your skin absorb the serum and then apply moisturizer or sunscreen to get dewy skin.
Even if you don’t see the signs of ageing, it’s better that you start using anti-ageing products when you’re 25. Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Skin & Face with Vitamin C, E, Organic Jojoba Oil, Natural Aloe and MSM by TruSkin is one of the best serums. It fights against wrinkles and spots on your skin. As you can see, the serum is infused with vitamin C, E and the goodness of natural Aloe Vera gel and organic jojoba oil. Applying the serum regularly can improve the texture of your skin and make it plump without making it oily.
If you’re fighting against hyperpigmentation, LaClaire 8% Retinol Complex Serum can provide you the even skin tone that you’re looking for. No matter which face serum you are using, make sure to apply the serum after toning. Wait for a couple of minutes for the serum to get absorbed and then apply your regular moisturizer. You can apply the serum ponce or twice daily depending on how fast you want the results to show.
Mask it to mask it:
Before you get confused, let us inform you that it is extremely important to give your skin an additional boost of hydration from time to time. The easiest and most effective way to do the same is through applying masks.
There are different types of masks that you can try out to treat different skin issues. While you can DIY your own face mask, you can use the store-bought ones as well. Fret not. We will discuss both types of face masks so that you know how to mask all those nasty spots and wrinkles.
Bentonite clay is known to remove impurities from the pores of your skin. Hence, bentonite clay mask is ideal for you if you have oily skin. New York Biology Bentonite Clay Mask Infused with Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be applied on your face as well as body. The mask comes in a powder form that you can mix with water to create a paste. Make a paste that is easy to spread over your skin and apply the mask twice a week. While bentonite clay clarifies your skin, the astringent property of apple cider vinegar tones and soothes your skin.
Another one of the best ways to get rid of the acne causing impurities is to apply Dead Sea mud mask. The mud from Dead Sea is enriched with minerals that are known to detoxify your skin. Aria Starr Dead Sea Mud Mask for Face reduces acne visibly. It doesn’t strip off your face from natural oils. Rather the mask moisturizes your skin without making it dry.
Now, all of us may not have enough time to create a paste and then apply it on skin. If you’re also one of those people, you can choose sheet mask. As you can understand from the name, sheet masks come in sheet form. Each mask is submerged in serums that penetrate into your skin to hydrate it. Sheet mask is applicable only on face and not on your body.
Ebanel Korean Collagen Face Mask Sheet deeply moisturizes your skin. As the mask has hyaluronic acid, it brightens your skin tone and fights against wrinkles. There’s only one negative side to using sheet masks. Most of these sheets are not bio-degradable. There are very few companies that are producing masks that are bio-degradable. But most masks are not. So, each time you use one such mask, you increase landfill.
If you are someone who wants to know the ingredients that you put on your face, you better choose a DIY mask. Oatmeal mask is great for your skin as it exfoliates your skin but maintains moisture. Take one teaspoon of oatmeal and turn it into powder. Now add half a teaspoon of honey and half a teaspoon of milk to create a paste.
Apply the paste on your skin and let it dry. Wet your palms and rub ever so slightly before washing the mask off. If you want to apply the same mask on your body, you can use yoghurt instead of milk. You can also add a pinch of turmeric to turn it into a skin brightening mask.
Protect yourself from the sun
Use sunscreen – you may have heard this a million of times already. And we are here to say the same thing once more. There’s no doubt that nothing can beat the feeling of lying on the beach, enjoying the sunlight. The fresh tan gives you the amazing glowing skin that screams summer. However, that is not an excuse to skip applying sunscreen. Forget the fact that sunrays have harmful UV-rays that can cause cancer. The extreme heat and the UV-rays can make your skin age faster than usual. You may not even realize why you’re having the wrinkles beside your eyes.
Sunscreen can be your savior. Use the right kind of sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful rays. Make sure that the sunscreen you choose provide protection from both UVA and UVB rays. We suggest you use at least SPF 30 PA++ sunscreen to start with. If you’re going to spend more time under direct sunlight, better choose a sunscreen with higher SPF and PA. If you’re going to the beach, use sunscreen that is at least SPF 50 and PA+++.
Do not skip applying sunscreen on cloudy days or during the winters. Pond’s Flawless Radiance Derma+ SPF 30 PA+++ Moisturizing Day Cream is ideal for you if you step out of your home every day. The day cream gets absorbed in your skin without making you look greasy. Earth’s Recipe Waterful Sun Gel is for oily skin ladies. The gel sunscreen doesn’t clog your pores nor does it make your skin oily.
If you’re going to the beach or for any water sports, use sunscreen that is waterproof. Banana Boat Ultra Sport Sunscreen Lotion provides you optimum protection against both UVA and UVB rays. However, remember to reapply the sunscreen every 2 hours at least for best results.
Cool yourself down with some water:
As you already know, almost 60% of our body is made of water. When you drink less water, it makes you feel dehydrated. Most of the time, you will get to hear people say that drinking water is necessary for your vital organs. While we often refer to our internal organs, we forget about the largest organ of our body – the skin. If you want to have dewy skin, you better keep yourself hydrated.
When you drink less water, your body fails to exterminate harmful substances from your body. And these elements mix with your blood, which becomes impure. And that impurity shows on your dull skin.
Many a time we are told that thirst is the best indicator of how much water your body needs. Yes, you may feel thirsty if you sweat a lot or pee more than usual. However, during winters, you may not feel as thirsty as you feel during the summers. Does your body need less water? The answer is plain and simple NO. Your body still needs the same amount of water to get rid of the toxic elements.
Hence, make sure to drink between 2.5 and 3.5 liters of water every day. Using a glass makes it easier to track how much water you are drinking. If you need help, you can also download apps that remind you to keep drinking water throughout the day.
Maintain water drinking chart and you will see the difference on your skin as fast as within one week. If you want, you can take up a challenge where you drink 1 gallon of water for a week. Make sure to keep track of the amount of water you drink. Take before and after pictures to compare your skin.
Eat it the right way:
Have you ever noticed that after a booze party, your skin feels extra dehydrated? You get zits here and there right after devouring the extra cheesy pizza? Well, your skin shows what you eat. So, if you’re not eating the right kind of food (and you already know what the right kind is), you will never be able to get a beautiful face that has glowing and dewy skin.
The first step to getting flawless glowing skin is to get rid of harmful substances that you consume daily. Sugar is one of the main culprits that cause acne and dull skin. Cut down sugar totally from your diet. If you are a sweet tooth, you can have honey or even brown sugar instead of white sugar.
Limit the amount of carbohydrate you eat in a day. Rather, fill your stomach with loads of fruits and nuts. Fruits and nuts have antioxidants that keep your system fresh and healthy. Also, refrain yourself from indulging in extremely salty and processed food. If you want to include fat in your daily diet, make sure to include good fat such as avocado, olive oil, etc.
Remember that refined carbohydrates actually hamper the production of collagen in your body. Collagen is a protein that strengthens our body parts. From bones to skin, collagen holds our whole body together. So, when you have food that impedes the production of collagen, you will see the impact on your skin as well. Your skin will lose elasticity and it will look dull.
Include berries and grapes in your daily intake. If you’re not a vegetarian, you can have fish such as Salmon to get omega-3 fatty acid and DHA. Vegetarians may have walnuts, flaxseed, chia seeds etc. to get the similar nutrients like fish.
Sweat out the glow:
Believe it or not, we have noticed that working out ACTUALLY makes your skin glowing. A good 45-minute of cardio thrice a week will not only help you lose the festive weight but it will also improve blood circulation in your system. Better blood circulation means more blood pumped into your blood vessels. The result is beautiful glowing skin.
Apart from cardio, you can also include a few yoga poses and a couple of facial exercises to improve your skin texture. Here are a few examples of exercises that you can follow.
Fake it till you make it:
We know that you might raise an eyebrow doubting the use of the cliché sentence. However, let us tell you that there’s no harm in faking glowing skin until you achieve the desired result. We encourage you to try out the processes described above to get the natural glow. But, we also think that you don’t have to wait to flaunt the beautiful glow.
You can use body lotions such as Burt’s Bees Radiance Body Lotion or Victoria’s Secret Pink Shine On Luminous Body Lotion. These body lotions have elements that trap the moisture from the environment and make your skin plump visually. Besides, they also have light reflecting properties to make your skin glow.

If you want to prepare a skin glowing serum for yourself, you can do the same. Use some of your unused or old highlighters to make the serum. Take a spray bottle and add a couple of teaspoons of glycerin in it. Add water to fill the bottle half way through.
Now add the highlighter that you have. Fill the bottle with water and shake it to mix all the ingredients. Now, spray the serum and step out to reveal glowing skin. You can adjust the ratio of water and glycerin depending on your skin type and preferences. Here’s a video that you can check out to understand the process better and see the result.
Know what you are doing:
We all face some sort of skin problems from time to time. The first thing that you must remember that there is no way your skin will glow if you are not taking care of it. Cleaning toning and moisturizing is not optional when it comes to skincare. These are the basic steps that you must follow every single day, preferably twice a day.
If there’s only one product that you can spend on, we would recommend you purchase sunscreen. Sun damage is sometimes irreversible. Hence, it is better to prevent the damage than to look for cure. If you’re looking for the answer to how to get smooth skin, your answer will be to apply sunscreen whenever you are stepping outside in the sunlight.
There are elements that keep our skin soft and supple. When we age, our body fails to produce these elements as much as we need. So, we need to infuse the elements into our skin from outside. And that is why you need to include serums in your beauty routine. Once in a while, pamper your skin with some masks that have different benefits on your skin.
Do not forget to keep yourself hydrated. Even if you’re not feeling thirsty, make sure to drink at least two liters of water a day to flush out the toxins from your system. Eat enough fruits, nuts and green vegetables to boost collagen production. Besides, the vitamins and minerals present in the healthy food helps detoxify your body, which results in glowing skin.
Exercising is yet another effective way to get dewy skin. The increase in blood circulation makes sure that your skin gets optimal amount of oxygen.
Since we are talking about natural ways to boost the glow of your skin, it will start showing results in around two weeks’ time. Until then, you can use highlighters or illuminating body lotions to fake the glow of your skin.
